Diabetes & Dry Mouth: How HYDRALIEF Can Help
Today in the U.S. about 29 million people have been diagnosed with diabetes, Type 2 being the most common form. People with Type 2 Diabetes develop insulin resistance, which means their bodies don't use insulin properly. Insulin resistance makes it difficult to maintain a healthy blood sugar level and can lead to a number of health complications including heart disease, kidney damage and nerve damage. That being said, November 14th is World Diabetes Day: an opportunity to bring awareness to diabetes and those who suffer from it.
One common, but often overlooked, symptom of diabetes is Dry Mouth. According to the American Diabetes Association, Dry Mouth in diabetes patients can be caused by prescription medications, or by high blood sugar. Dry Mouth in someone with diabetes can lead to a number of unnecessary, possibly dangerous, complications.
Because saliva is needed to sweep away bad bacteria, Dry Mouth can cause infections such as cavities, tooth decay and even gingivitis. Infections are complicated for diabetes patients because infections can spike your blood-sugar level, making it even more difficult to control your diabetes.
To complicate things further, bacteria in the mouth feed on sugar. So if your blood sugar is high, bacteria will want to hang out in your mouth as long as possible, making a mouth infection last much longer and be much more difficult to treat than it would in someone without diabetes.
It’s a dangerous cycle:
Dry Mouth → mouth infections → blood sugar spike → worsened infection
At HYDRALIEFTM we have a special place in our heart for diabetes patients.
Fortunately, our line of HYDRALIEFTM Dry Mouth products help promote healthy saliva flow and moisturize the mouth, so diabetes patients don’t have to suffer from Dry Mouth discomfort, or the ensuing oral complications that it causes.
We know diabetes patients have a lot to think about when it comes to their health:
- blood sugar
We’re glad we can do our part by making their lives a little bit easier by relieving their Dry Mouth discomfort.
